Support a business that carries local beers, visit your neighborhood brewery, or simply share your favorite Virginia brew with a friend! Help bring even more business to Virginia and join your local beer community this August to celebrate. Customers who covet diversity and fresh flavors in their beer choices are growing in numbers. Even large national beer brands have noticed our love for craft beer, choosing to set up their East Coast satellite locations in our commonwealth. Since that time, Virginia has broke triple digits for breweries that have opened and started pouring delicious libations. And we are not alone: in 2012 Governor McDonnell signed a bill naming August as Virginia Craft Beer Month. In five short years we have jumped from an area with two breweries to twenty and counting. Figueroa Mountain Company’s Hoppy Poppy-Price unknown 1462 E.It may be months before the fiery golden flowers are popping up in my backyard, but rest assured I will be getting my bouquet on in the dead of winter. I need to finally make a trip to Figueroa Mountain Brewing Company, which boasts tap rooms in Los Olivos, Santa Barbara, and Santa Maria. My New Year’s resolution is pretty simple. The mouthfeel is light yet creamy-like my favorite peanut butter. On the tongue, the flavor unfolds with a peanut-packed punch and refreshing bitter balance. On the nose, it’s all chocolate and sweetness. Read: Belching Beaver’s Peanut Butter Milk Stout. If you ask me, the humble peanut is really due for a comeback as of late, and its big return has finally come. “Better-for-you” almond butter, hazelnut-laden Nutella, and even cookie butter (whatever the hell that is) might be “trending now,” but you can’t beat the tried-and-true flavor of old fashioned peanut butter.
